July and August get all the attention — but ask anyone who works on Ibiza's water and they'll tell you the best time to charter a boat is often side-season. Here's an honest month-by-month guide so you can pick the day that suits you, whether you want peak buzz or warm, quiet water at a better price.
The quick answer
| Month | Sea | Vibe & price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| May | ~19–20°C | Fresh, quiet, best value | Great value |
| June | ~22–23°C | Warm, lively, not yet packed | Sweet spot |
| July | ~25°C | Peak buzz, busiest, priciest | Peak |
| August | ~26°C | Hottest, fullest, book early | Peak |
| September | ~25°C | Warm sea, calmer, great value | Sweet spot |
| October | ~22°C | Mild, very quiet, end of season | Great value |
Our honest recommendation: June & September
If you want the best all-round day, choose June or September. The sea is genuinely warm, the sun is reliable, the famous anchorages aren't yet (or no longer) packed with boats — and the same yacht costs noticeably less than in July and August. You get the Ibiza everyone dreams of, without the peak-season crush or peak-season price.
May & October: the value play
The shoulder months are Ibiza's best-kept secret. The water is swimmable, the coastline is at its greenest, and you'll often have a cove almost to yourself. Prices are at their lowest, so it's the smart pick for groups watching the budget — see our cost guide for the numbers.
July & August: peak season
If you're coming for the full Ibiza energy — beach clubs in full swing, the island buzzing — peak summer delivers. Just two tips: book well in advance (the best boats sell out weeks ahead) and start early to beat the crowds to the best anchorages.
💡 Whatever month you choose, mornings are calmest on the water and the light is softest. An early start usually means flatter sea and emptier coves — then you're back in time for the evening.
What about the time of day?
Full-day charters typically run roughly 10:00–18:00. If you only want a few hours, a sunset cruise in the late afternoon is hard to beat — the west coast at golden hour is one of the Mediterranean's great sights.
